The VSA, VTM-4, ABS and ! triangle light were all on after I had two new front tires put on. When I would apply brakes and turn I would getting a pumping sound in the brakes. When you put the shifter in 1 or 2 gear, you can push the VTM-4 button on dash and you will engage the 4 wheel drive constently. If you switch out of 1st or 2nd gear it will disengage automatically. I'm just seeing this thread for the first time, but I was going to comment that it could either be a failure in the VTM-4 system OR a different failure that has disabled the VTM-4 system causing the light to illuminate. In your case, it was obviously the latter. By the way, when Check engine light and VTM-4 light were on, I drove the car couple of days like that (the service advisor suggested that it is safe to drive) and haven't noticed any difference in car's behavior. It does come on when the engine is warm but the transmission is cold (e.g. remote start in driveway, warming up but not driven… not even shifted out of park).
