If you're on SE or AE and the armor mod is SE or AE, you'll want to use Faster SMP. The original HDT SMP is entirely obsolete and HDT PE is for Oldrim. Never, at any point ever have anything after XPMSE for the Plugin Order . When CTDs occurred, Faster HDT-SPM was loaded after 3BA and I had a setup SMP and CBPC full (breasts, butt, thighs, calves, genitals), so this mod was overwriting plenty of 3BA's .xml files.
